Shape up for your red carpet event

JANUARY means the start of the Hollywood awards season and there are few things I love more than checking out the gorgeous gowns adorning the world's best bodies.

There are so many different shapes and sizes on the red carpet, and I find it interesting to see how people dress to best flatter their figures.

I'm blessed to get invited to some of the most glamorous parties in town, but getting ready for such events can be fraught with anxiety over what to wear.

Personally, I don't choose dresses which are too loose on top because I already have broad shoulders from swimming so I would look a bit out of proportion.

I know what looks best on me - something cinched in at the waist with thin straps. That look flatters my shape and shows off my athletic frame, which I train hard for.

If I'm not feeling so confident in my body - all women get this way from time to time - I will opt for a more relaxed cut. If I know I have a function coming up, I'll make sure I eat super healthy and schedule some extra workouts.

Two of the most beautiful celebrities, in my opinion, are models Miranda Kerr and Adriana Lima. Both strut the Victoria's Secret runways and - remarkably - both have had babies, but if you examine their bodies closely, they are completely different.

I prefer Lima's because she's toned, lean and tight, yet not at all bulky. She does a lot of boxing, skipping and bodyweight exercises, which makes her not only an Angel, but a good athlete, too.

Whereas Miranda is much softer looking with more curves, though still very lean, which means she doesn't do a lot of hard exercise but focuses more ! on yoga, Pilates and walking.

I know a lot of girls are scared to lift weights because they don't want to get bulky, but that is such a myth. Lifting weights helps you burn fat for longer, while cardio will give you a tighter, more toned body. I advise lifting weights once a week as this really helps in shedding the kilos and toning up.

Equally attractive as the supermodels, but with totally different body shapes, are actresses Sofia Vergara and Christina Hendricks. These women are so curvy and very feminine.

I can tell from their figures they don't do a lot of heavy workouts. They look like they'd do some walking, but probably don't place as much significance on their fitness as Lima and Kerr. They would still be eating reasonably healthy but would have a more relaxed approach to their diets, enjoying treats here and there.

And let's not forget the blokes. Wow. Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig ... um, HOT!

These guys clearly spend hours honing their bodies in the gym - they are so muscly and strong.
